Remembering Homayoun Ershadi (1947–2025)
Homayoun Ershadi — an architect whom Abbas Kiarostami discovered and cast — died on November 11, 2025, at the age of 78, after a battle with cancer.
He made his screen debut as Mr. Badii in Taste of Cherry (1997), the film that won the Palme d’Or at Cannes. The role launched a long international career that included The Kite Runner. He remains inseparable from one of Kiarostami’s most enduring films.
