Mozart's Cosi fan tutte ("Women are like that") is a blackly comic tale of a bet that gets out of hand. Abbas Kiarostami's production of Cosi fan tutte opened Aix en Provence in France, and went on stage at the London Coliseum in 2009. It used filmed backdrops to evoke the period as much Shakespearean-esque dialogue and seduction ensues and things get tangled and tense.
Shortly after the 1979 revolution in Iran, specially after the Iran-Iraq war started, new rules of filmmaking were unclear and cinema has was put on hold in Iran. Filmmaking was impossible, so Abbas Kiarostami started doing other things, including making chests with wood and leather. During those years he made about 20 of these chests in different sizes and designs.
