Tickets is a collaborative film involving three filmmakers: Ermanno Olmi, Abbas Kiarostami, and Ken Loach. The film follows the events that occur on a train ride across Italy, toward Rome. Each filmmaker contributed a short film to create the full film.

The train travels across Italy toward Rome. On board is a professor who daydreams a conversation with a love that never was (Olmi’s film), a complaining widow traveling to a memorial service for her late husband and who's accompanied by an assisting community service volunteer (Kiarostami’s film), and three brash Scottish soccer fans en route to a match (Loach’s film). All the shorts are connected through a family of Albanian refugees, who switch trains and steal a ticket. Interactions among these Europeans remark on class and nationalism, courtesy and rudeness, and opportunities for kindness.
